Blurring autobiography and fiction, the work examines a disturbing contradiction: what happens when the desire to belong draws us towards the very structures capable of rejecting us?

Dino Desica and the Rhinoplastic Procedure transforms an ordinary surgical procedure into material for fiction. Filmed during COVID-19, the work follows Dino Desica through the strange protocols, restrictions and visual language surrounding the procedure. Using events that genuinely happened rather than staging them, the work plays with how images can transform lived experience into narrative, leaving uncertain what belongs to Norman Mine and what has been appropriated into Dino’s fictional life.

The Rise of Dino Desica marks the first appearance of Dino Desica, Norman Mine’s fictional alter ego: an aspiring actor attempting to become an artist while moving between auditions, precarious jobs and repeated visits to the Jobcentre. Drawing on Italian neorealism, the work turns the frustrations and failures of everyday life into material for fiction, establishing a central premise of Dino’s world: if everyday life is already a stage, where does performance actually begin or end?

An observational video exploring childhood, power and the temporary meaning we attach to ordinary objects

Brothers, Nostalgic Object observes Matteo and Arturo, two brothers playing by the sea in Santa Marinella. A discarded piece of wood becomes the focus of their attention, provoking possession, negotiation and rivalry before eventually drifting away. Through a simple encounter, the work considers how an ordinary object can acquire emotional value through the relationships and memories projected onto it.

Mamma – 2014

A mother and adult son negotiate care, independence and separation through an ordinary domestic argument

Mamma follows an increasingly frustrated exchange between Norman Mine and his mother as he prepares to return to London. Questions about packing, tickets, online check-in and folded clothes become a familiar struggle between maternal care and a son's insistence that he can look after himself. Filmed within the rhythms of an Italian family home, the work moves beyond their argument to observe what remains when children grow up, leave, and the mother continues to inhabit the domestic space they once shared.

Created during the COVID-19 lockdown, Future Optimist, Obsession and Insecure at Night form a trilogy in which Dino Desica turns isolation into performance. Made within domestic space and for the screen, the works move between loneliness, desire, anxiety and self-invention, exploring what happens to a performer when the outside world disappears and the camera becomes one of the few remaining ways to be seen.
